My legal career began in 1991 with the Law Firm of Galatz, Earl, Catalano and Smith. Neil G. Galatz, is universally recognized as the premiere personal injury attorney in Las Vegas.
In 1993 I worked one year with the law firm of Goodman and Chesnoff. Oscar B. Goodman is universally recognized as the premiere criminal defense attorney in Las Vegas. He is currently the Mayor of Las Vegas.
After learning from the most experienced civil and criminal defense attorneys in Las Vegas the Law Office of James Dean Leavitt was founded in 1994. Since this time I have primarily focused on criminal defense representation. I have successfully represented thousands of individuals since this time.
2. Reputation
Reputation can be defined as to how you are thought of by judges, prosecutors, attorneys, clients and members of the community.
Judges respect attorneys who are honest, and ethical. 
There are many occasions in court when your word is all you have when making representations to the judge. This reputation benefits the client when advocating for him or her at the time of sentencing.
My relationships with prosecutors are the key to successfully resolving the charges against my clients. Ninety Seven percent (97%) of all state cases in Nevada plea bargain. It is imperative that your attorney has the type of relationship with each prosecutor that will foster the resolution of your case. If prosecutors trust and respect your attorney it will allow them to most effectively represent you.
When potential new clients ask me about my experience and reputation, I often tell them to call other criminal defense attorneys. I trust and respect that my colleagues feel the way about me that I do most of them.
In 2004 I was elected to the prestigious NEVADA BOARD OF REGENTS. Myself and twelve other Regents govern the Nevada System of Higher Education. This comprises the following eight institutions.
Regents serve six year terms and spend approximately twenty hours each week in the performance of their duties. This public service has helped cement my reputation as one of the leaders in Nevada Higher Education.
